Father (59) came back from errands this morning suddenly confused. Measured BP at home immediately, currently sitting around 154/92. Height: 170cm, Weight: not sure at the moment, Medications: not completely sure but nothing major to note of, mostly vitamins
My father came back from errands suddenly acting erratic and confused. He remembered who we are, who he is, major life information but completely lost as to what day it was, what year, current news, or what is currently going on.
We immediately measured his BP to be 154/92. He noticed it was high as well. He has no physical symptoms at this time, speaks coherently, responds when asked, no pain, no chest pressure, can move arms, face is not droopy. He is just very confused and lost. We are currently on our way to the ER (We live in Canada) because we don't want this to suddenly get worse.
Just wanted to reach out to this sub on what could be probable causes and what could possibly be going on to be better educated for a long day at the hospital.
He has no history of hypertension, only previous issues with kidney stones, which were removed back in 2016. My grandfather (his father) does have a history of hypertension and died of a sudden heart attack. My father does have sleep apnea and sleeps with a CPAP machine. Other than that, he is relatively healthy, eats well, and exercises.
Did we make the correct decision to take him to the ER? We don't want to strain the healthcare system here ofc, but we believe it is sufficient enough to see a doctor immediately.
Thank you!
