Help me choose between 3 ultrawide VA monitors: Gigabyte G34WQC2 Philips 34M2C5501A/00 AOC CU34G2XP/BK
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to choose between these three monitors:
- Gigabyte G34WQC2
- Philips 34M2C5501A/00
- AOC CU34G2XP/BK
My use case is approx 90% office work (text, multitasking) and about 10% gaming (just World of Tanks, nothing competitive).
The main reason I’m specifically looking at these models is high native contrast (~4000:1) – I really want deep blacks, not gray-ish blacks like on IPS.
All three seem very similar on paper:
- 3440×1440 ultrawide
- VA panels
- 180–200 Hz
- 10-bit panels
So from a spec perspective, they look almost identical.
One thing that caught my attention:
- The Philips has a nice feature — ambient backlight (Ambiglow-style), which seems useful for reducing eye strain.
- However, I’ve also read some reports about noticeable coil whine on that model, which concerns me.
Pricing in my country:
- Gigabyte: 270€
- Philips: 270€
- AOC: 230€
So AOC is noticeably cheaper (but older)
What I’m trying to understand:
- Is there any real-world difference in panel quality / motion handling / smearing between these three, or are they effectively the same class of VA panel?
- Is the Philips coil whine issue something common or just isolated cases?
- Given my use case (mostly static office work), is there any reason to prefer one over the others?
- Is the cheaper AOC basically the same thing, just better value?
Thanks!
