Buenas noches, Pool. Hope this night finds you well. I wish to discuss the Pool’s perspective on spoilers & Labels. To be clear about where we stand on this.

Anthro Swim will not enforce explicitly labeled trigger warnings for every possibly touchy subject. Swimmers are free to add them themselves if they wish in their own poast, and we respect that! Yet AS will never be a space where every difficult image, theme, or implication enforces attaching a detailed label. Frankly when we began this place there were no spoilers or warnings on anything. I believe filtering things detracts from the raw impact, whatever it may be. This is a staple of expression here. That said, we are no longer a mere hovel. We’ve a wide reach, so a compromise was made to alleviate people’s concerns while still holding true to raw impact.

The compromise is mature-audience framing: TV-MA indicator, spoiler layers when appropriate, and a clear “viewer discretion is advised” culture is enough. NSFW does not only mean porn, and I think many people have forgotten that. It can also mean disturbing, violent, emotionally heavy, or otherwise not-safe-for-work material.

AS will not handhold people through every possible discomfort. It is a mature space. That does not mean anything goes, and it does not mean we are careless, but it does mean the viewer, you, has some responsibility too. A depiction of a grisly scene is not equal to glorification, and with that it should still be handled with care. A user who has no prior knowledge of AS may find it too much. A warning of content that is within should be enough.
Anyone that continues after the fact and is surprised of the content, did it to themselves.

People may opine about the piece itself. People can add warnings voluntarily. We wish you the best, and that includes understanding you will see things here that don’t always brighten your day.

It can be something obvious or hard to describe. Something you experienced while talking to someone, looking at the gallery, or making your own arte to share. A memory, a sadness, comfort, unease, nostalgia, hope, recognition, whatever stayed with you after leaving the Pool.

For me, it’s hope, but not the clean kind. Seeing people’s deeply melancholic arte, yet noticing their steadfastness and eagerness for life. The joy of watching real connections form in front of me. People from all walks of life: Therians, Christians, Muslims, LGBTQ+ folks, people from all over the world and every corner of Earth, finding themselves here together. Spanish and Portuguese readily present among the English. Portuñolglish, as we call it.

That’s a big part of what pulled me into making this place in the first place. The Pool, you all, have continuously reminded me and others that darkness is not the end of meaning.
