Need help choosing my artist name
hey everyone,
i’m a vocalist working across jazz, pop, r&b with a bit of indie influence, and i’m currently at the very beginning of building my artist project.
i’ve been trying for a long time to come up with an artist name that feels right, but nothing really sticks. i don’t want anything overly gimmicky or “try-hard”, just something simple, one word, easy to remember and easy to pronounce in english.
i really like the vibe of artists like clairo — short, soft, minimal names that still feel distinctive and have presence. i’ve also considered just using my real name, but i’ve never fully connected with it as an artist identity.
i think i might be overthinking it a bit, but even when i have moments of inspiration, i still can’t land on something that feels natural or “me”.
my friends have suggested names too, but most of them either feel too random, already taken everywhere, or not quite strong enough for a long-term artist identity (especially for spotify, instagram, etc).
i guess i’m looking for something that feels:
- one word
- soft / relaxed but memorable
- easy to pronounce in english
- not gimmicky
- and available across platforms
would love to hear how other artists approached choosing their name or if anyone has been in a similar situation.
p.s. also just to add — i know a lot of people might ask what i like or what defines me as an artist, but honestly that’s not my main focus right now (at least for this stage).
i’m not too worried about the meaning behind the name, i just want something that sounds good, is easy to say, and feels simple and right.
Oh, and also I don't want it to be an actual name.
