Will SteamOS let the Steam Machine switch cleanly between monitor and TV setups?

Steam Machine is meant to live between a desk and TV. Do you think Valve will update SteamOS to support seamless display switching?

My planned setup is pretty simple. I want to keep the Steam Machine on my computer desk, connect it to my monitor through DisplayPort, and also run a 3-meter HDMI cable to my TV.

Ideally, I would use it like this:

In Desktop Mode, I want to use only my desk monitor over DisplayPort. I do not really need the TV acting as a second display while I am using the Steam Machine like a normal desktop PC and playing Mouse and Keyboard games.

But when I switch to Gaming Mode, I want it to use the TV over HDMI as the main display, since that is where I would play single-player/controller games from the couch. In that situation, I do not need the desk monitor at all.

So basically I am wondering, will SteamOS support this kind of setup cleanly? Without having to unplug cables, disable displays manually every time, or mess around with settings every time I switch modes.

I know the hardware has both HDMI and DisplayPort, so the ports themselves are not the issue. My question is more about SteamOS/Gaming Mode behavior with multiple connected displays.

Has Valve said anything about improving multi-monitor/output selection for the Steam Machine? And based on current SteamOS behavior, do you think this kind of seamless desk-to-TV switching will be possible?
