Is it legal to run a small business from your apartment?

My friend runs a small IT services company from an apartment in a gated community.

Three of them stay there, and they work from there as well.

Things were fine until they added the company location on Google Maps. After that, some association members started objecting, saying businesses can’t be run from residential apartments and that it could create disturbance.

But practically, it’s just people staying and working from home.

When we checked online, the legality seems very grey. Some say small office work is allowed, others say societies can restrict it.

Does anyone here actually know how this works legally?

Got a sales call from phase 3 of a big project near Sarjapur.

I said the pricing doesn’t make sense. They immediately brought up metro connectivity and said it'll be ready in around 8 years.

Project ready in 5 years, and within 3 more years the metro will also be operational. They seemed very optimistic.

I checked, and the metro line is already approved it seems.
So what are the chances it'll be ready in 8 years?

I’ve been property hunting and evaluating a lot of options in the city.

Every time I contact a builder and ask about availability, pricing, plans, etc., it goes fine initially.

But after a point, they all say the same thing. “Come to the site, we’ll explain everything better.”

Some offer a Google Meet, but even that turns into a full sales pitch. And doing this across multiple projects is just not practical.

Also, sitting with sales teams is exhausting. It feels more like they’re trying to convince you to buy rather than just sharing clear, straightforward details.

Has anyone else faced this? How do you get proper info without going through all these site visits and sales calls?
