Problem: I teach K-12 music, and often need to arrange music for my high school band of 3-5 players. Sometimes all I can find on musescore.com or flat.io community is in a very different instrumentation and not easy to coppy/paste parts (for example, I find a written out guitar part that takes longer for me to convert into clarinet, trumpet, and sax, or when there are so many parts that I have to analyze every chord to find the most important notes to keep, then hope the voicing works out)
Goal: I'm looking for a tool or process that helps me create rough draft arrangements very quickly, starting with a lead sheet, melody, or other by re-voicing an existing arrangement.
They do not have to be supper polished arrangements. Most of these will be used for community events in my tiny town, where they are glad to hear good live music at all.
Solutions?
Is there an AI tool that can help with this? When I search online, I only find info on tools that turn pdf's into musicxml or into audio. I usually already have my music in Musescore editor and want the draft to be on there too so I can make changes. So musicxml to musicxml would be best.
What processes/techniques save time doing this? I'm using Musescore4 now, but open to requesting a paid software from my school district. Features I have used are:
For lead sheets - Realize chord symbols
To reduce chords and compare parts - Explode/implode
To coppy on beats and off beats into separate instruments - Select more > right click > select > more > same staff, same beat > change to voice 2 > selection filter toggle voice 1 off > coppy > paste into desired part
😅
Could it be a good idea to give students long note chord parts for the harmony and teach them to shape their own parts from that? (collaborating via flat.io, or memorizing)
Any time-saving ideas are really appreciated!
Thanks!
