Syd and TP Discuss Their WNBA Futures

“Syd and TP have been spending a lot of time with kids, and it’s teaching us all A LOT. A 6-year-old at a bounce house asked an important question for which TP had no answer. Gymnastics resumed. Syd got her biggest wish - another class clown in her family tree.

Since y’all can’t let us take a vacation in peace, Syd clears the air on retirement, injury, and where her dream final minutes would be played.

TP is having a little "hissy" (her words), otherwise known as a hysterectomy. No more pain, no more blood infusions. You’ll never guess what she wants to be called when she wakes up. She's kidding. Mostly.

Plus: the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act and Louisiana is just the start, WNBA valuations are breaking records, ESPN dropped a Top 50 list that was clearly designed as rage bait, and Gen Z rookies are TikToking in the locker room after getting cut. And we couldn’t even tell a joke on the bus after a loss?”

Sensationalism, Links, and Blog Support- what kind of player/team posts are allowed?

Hello r/wnba_discussions!

After Opening Day and more and more fans waking up from their offseason hibernation to come back and discuss WNBA, here's clarification on what kind of posts we allow on the sub:

  • Sensationalist posts- We do not support sensationalist posts that are meant to create harmful narratives about specific players. It is also the expectation for "Hot Take" flaired discussions to not go into this territory. Yes, we are aware that players make personal decisions that we disagree with, but this subreddit is to talk about basketball play and decisions that affect a player's ability to perform on the court.
    • If something controversial does happen on the court, pre/post-game interviews, or team-affiliated communications (ex: beat reporters, local newspaper) we will support discussion on it as long as it is in one post, preferably linked to an article or post-game thread, and the conversation will be up for 24 hours. Once discussion has reached the 24 hour point, it will be locked to prevent trolls, nit-picking. and "story telling" that is unfounded. Edit: if a post has a ton of reports in a short time, the 24 hour window will be voided.
    • If a personal decision does impact a team and is documented through player interviews and team press, that is considered fair game but the topic must be treated with respect.
    • Clickbait links from Athlon, Sportskeeda, and Sports Illustrated are not allowed on this subreddit. It is hard to have an honest conversation about the WNBA when members post and support narratives from clickbait, AI generated, or low effort sources. If there are more clickbait websites that we need to be aware of, please message mods or tell us in the comments below.
    • Crossposts from gossip subreddits are not allowed.
  • Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Threads) and X posts need to be screenshotted. Due to a subreddit vote, links from these websites were banned due to boycott and because it requires an account to view content or see the full context. Members also are at risk of accidentally doxxing themselves when they share stories from these sites.
  • If you are a fan of a player/team's personal media or podcasts that aren't related to basketball play, please save those screenshots or links for Monday and post them under "Start of the Werk Week" threads or use the flair "Start of the Werk Week." After Monday, we are back to discussions about basketball play. Please make sure that you are using screenshots/links directly from the player or team if at all possible, out of respect for the players and what they are comfortable with sharing. Don't be weird.
  • Approved Users Only Flair- this is not a very common flair on our subreddit but if there are more sensitive topics like race, gender, sexuality, and politics that need to be covered, mods may toggle this flair on and limit the conversation to those who are an approved user. Please read below if you are interested in becoming an approved user.
    • Regarding the ability to comment under posts with this flair: in order to be an approved user, if you are not already, you need to have your Reddit account for at least a month and have to explain to mods how you would approach the topics of race, gender, sexuality, and politics in the WNBA. Requests for approved user status need to be sent through modmail. We do see your comment history in the sub, so please be aware of that when asking to be an approved user. Users who apply but don't participate in discussions or have frequent downvotes in the sub will not be given approved user status.
      • If you are unsure of your status, subreddit members receive a notification that tells them that they are an approved user. If you are unsure, please message the mods through modmail.
  • Blogs, Podcasts, and Opinion Pieces- If you are posting basketball content from someone who is not a sports journalist or your own personal blog, please use this flair. For example: Quita Loves Sports, Hunter Cruse, No Cap Space WBB. We are also aware that there are news media publications that have podcasts (The Athletic), but please tag their podcasts and labeled opinion pieces with this flair. If we do notice harmful rhetoric from bloggers, we will pull their content from our sub out of respect of all fans.
  • Report, report, report. If you see posts that do not align with our subreddit's rules, please report them and do not engage. While it may be satisfying to tell someone that they're wrong, more reports happen when discussions spiral into full blown arguments.

I know it seems like a lot, but once you start posting and commenting, you'll get used to it! Mods try to attach explanations if things are removed- we have long-standing members that get posts removed every once in a while and we promise that it is not personal! We try really hard to stick to the rules and procedures that we create so the sub is consistent. If a post seems like it goes against typical procedure, mods usually provide an explanation to prevent further confusion.

Happy posting!

ISO: WNBA patterns

Fellow crafty people, if you have links to any WNBA themed embroidery, cross stitch, or fabric patterns or something related, can you drop that in the comments?

While the WNBA is getting more popular, I have yet to see licensed fabric that isn’t $30 for an 8x8 swatch from Canada. I think it would be cool to have that fabric to make quilt blocks for each team, but I guess I’m only able to use solids.

Thanks in advance!

“The Chicago Sky have signed three-time All-Star Natasha Cloud to a one-year, $550,000 deal, sources briefed on the contract told The Athletic. The Sky also waived Hailey Van Lith, the team announced.

Cloud won a WNBA Championship with the Washington Mystics in 2019 and is a three-time All-Defensive team member, but spent much of the offseason unsigned after starting 41 games for the New York Liberty in 2025.
Van Lith, the Sky’s No. 11 pick in 2025, struggled in her rookie season, playing just 12.4 minutes and averaging 3.5 points.”
