Handgun travel into a notoriously miserable state
I traveled from Florida to Virginia this week. I have a Florida concealed carry, and currently have my S&W BG 2.0, with a 12 round mag, and defensive rounds. I had a death in my family, and need to head into a terrible gun state. I’d rather not risk getting jacked up even if the handgun is locked in a box, and my ammo is separate. I’d be looking at multiple felonies if something went bad for me. I’m a retired soldier, and have never had any legal issues, so it’s unlikely if I was pulled over that a cop would want to search the car. My logical brain says it’s not an issue, but my other brain is scared. What kind of options do I have behind what I list below?

Just drive in and out. Low risk, high impact. My wife is not happy…
Find a gun store in WV willing to hold it until my return trip on Saturday.
Rent a storage unit and lock it in there until my return trip
