The Free Will Show Episode 118: Physics and Libertarian Free Will with Jeffrey Koperski
"Over the last ten or fifteen years, I would periodically see a physicist, say that, given what we know about physics, free will is just impossible. And these are public facing physicists...but when you examine what they're actually arguing, I would say that the heavy lifting isn't been done by the physics at all, it's really done by philosophical assumptions; things about reductionism, and the causal closure of physics, and what counts as real science. So these physicists, they tend to treat their views as just established scientific facts, rather than the contentious philosophical positions that they really are."
"Libertarian freedom is fully caffeinated free will. I often tell my students that it's the sort of free will you think you have, until some philosopher-scientist talks you out of it."
