Possibility to change a booked flight from Air Canada to another Star Alliance carrier?

Bit of a random query, but the Air Canada website provides no information, and I wanted to see if anybody has been in a similar situation before calling up the Air Canada support line.

Bit of context: I booked an Economy Comfort return ticket from Paris to Toronto with one flight in September 2025 and the return flight in July 2026. However, due to a change of plans, I'm no longer going to be in Toronto in July but instead in New Jersey. Knowing that New Jersey is a United hub (another Star Alliance carrier), I tried to change my ticket on the Air Canada website, but the only option would be to fly from New Jersey to Toronto/Montréal and then fly to Paris. As this ticket is fully exchangeable and refundable, I checked whether it would be possible to refund that leg of the trip and with that money buy a ticket on United, however the refund value given from Air Canada was less than 1/5 of the original ticket price (lol) so this isn't really a viable option.

So my question is: is it possible/has anyone ever managed to change a ticket booked through AC to a service operated by another Star Alliance carrier, or will I just have to fly from New Jersey to Canada and then to Paris? Thanks!
