NWOHR> NWHR> NHI Question
American Born Taiwanese here! I finally got my NWHR April 2026, after a lot of research and using the threads here. I'm set to return back to the states next week but my final action item is to set up my NHI.
My confusion/situation:
I just went to the district office that my HHR is set to set up my NHI as my final step before I leave but once I got there they told me to wait until 6 months from now to set up my NHI.
I already have a local phone number, bank account, and a form filled out but they told me that I can go back to the states and wait for 6 months. From what I've read and looked through on the threads, many people paid the premiums by linking their bank accounts so I'm a bit confused what's going on.
I do plan to come back to Taiwan by the end of the year but it's really confusing based on what I've researched and read.
I unfortunately don't have any living relatives in Taiwan and joined a family friend's HHR, and was planning on mailing my card to them once the 6 months was up.
Does anyone know how else to navigate this or do I just have to wait 6 months back in the US before I can get it?
