WJKK WJKF / sat sri akaal. Planning a trip to Amritsar. Advice to a non Sikh please?
WJKK WJKF / sat sri akaal.
I am a non Sikh. I have been studying Sikhi and it's my dream to go to Punjab since I was a child. Specifically The Golden Temple. As a child I just saw it as a beautiful place. As a 31 year old university student who studies Sikhi and does practice Sikhi but remains a Catholic, I see it as a holy place with the presence of Waheguru ji. This has been a dream of mine and I want it to be a religious pilgrimage full of prayer, listening and understanding. My punjabi is not good but I am working on it. I can tie my own pagg and wear it daily with my kara. I am a Catholic but I follow the rules of Sikhi. I am no where near as educated as a Sikh but I am definitely more educated than a majority of non Sikhs.
I practice Sava as much as I can when I go to the Gudwara and I am constantly studying Sikhi. If anyone has any advice for my month long trip I would be grateful. It will be months before I go most likely as I want to plan and get better at my punjabi. This will be my first time in India. I am not an influencer, or some tourist. I am madly in love with Punjab and Sikhi. This is a time for me to find peace and heal while praying to God / Waheguru ji.
I may or may not go see some near by towns but my real goal is to see the golden temple and bathe in the holy Amrit Sarovar while experiencing Punjab, shops and learning more about Punjab India and Sikhi. All respectful advice is welcome.
Edit: would like to add, I am traveling alone (male) and I have no friends or family. I will be all on my own and trusting in God during this trip (spiritually I mean, I am not going empty handed, I will have the funds to care for my trip and safely back home). Happy to answer any questions if needed just in case I may or may not have mispoken anywhere in my writing.
