I just watched Erased

What a crazy anime to stumble upon in the wild when searching "anime" on Disney+ (I think it's also from having the Hulu bundle?)

Erased is a 12-episode series about Saturo - a 29 year old man who sometimes gets thrown back in time and is able to stop certain tragedies from happening before they can occur. He has no control over this, it just happens. This is called 'rebirth'.

At the beginning of the show, it's mentioned that there were was a string of child-murders when Saturo was a kid - some of the victims being his peers. Saturo feels bad as that was one tragedy he couldn't stop from happening.

However, when his mother is killed, he gets suddenly warped back in time and 'rebirths' back in the 80s - now being a child again. So he takes it upon himself to stop those murders from happening.

I think it's extremely strong. The animation is very detailed. I found the characters to be adorable and I rooted so hard for the protagonists. There were times when Saturo's plans didn't work and consequences were imminent.

It got very heavy at times. They show child abuse first-hand. It was heavy to watch knowing these children were on the cusp of being murdered. And it's especially sickening when you actually get to know them. That provided tension. Not as much as, say, Death Note.

Erased takes more time to deliver emotional moments than suspense. I personally would have preferred a slight lean toward suspense if I'm being honest.

Most people bash the ending hard - particularly the last 2 episodes. I'm not sure what the manga ending was (and I don't want spoilers) but this one was... meh. It rushes things pretty quickly and flounders a little bit with it's reveals.

Overall, good watch. It really stuck with me and kinda made me miss my childhood.
