Good Friday is a solemn Christian holy day that commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. Observed during Holy Week, it is a day of deep reflection, penance, and fasting.

The date of Good Friday changes every year to coincide with the Friday before Easter Sunday.

Good Friday is marked by a somber and quiet atmosphere, distinct from the joyous celebrations of Easter.

Many churches hold special liturgies between noon and 3:00 PM, the hours Jesus is traditionally believed to have hung on the cross.

A common ritual where worshippers approach and touch or kiss a crucifix as a sign of reverence.

A 14-step devotional practice that retraces the final steps of Jesus leading to his burial.

Many Christians, particularly Catholics, observe a strict fast and abstain from eating meat.

Many cultures, believers hold "Way of the Cross" processions, often featuring life-sized statues or dramatic re-enactments of the Passion.

Yoruba urban history is defined by early, dense urbanization, with pre-colonial societies in southwestern Nigeria.

Unlike some African regions with rural settlement patterns, the Yoruba were famously urban, with large, concentrated populations (some over 100,000, like Òyó-Ilé) surrounded by farmland

Towns were organized around the Afin (palace) of the Oba and a central market (Ọjà Ọba), surrounded by the compounds of patrilineages.

Yoruba kingdoms utilized extensive fortifications, including impressive city walls and massive trench systems known as Iyàrà or the famous Sungbo's Eredo.

Ile-Ife is considered the spiritual and cultural heart of the Yoruba world. Other major, influential kingdoms included Oyo (a massive empire in the 17th-18th centuries),Ibadan (a major 19th-century military city),Ijebu-Ode, and Ilesha.

Cities were divided into distinct quarters based on professions and lineage.

The 19th century brought disruption (the Fall of Oyo), but the Yoruba remained urbanized, adapting their cities under British colonial rule.

Many ancient Yoruba cities continue to be among the largest urban centers in Nigeria today.

Muslim and Christian co-existence in Palestine

Muslim and Christian co-existence in Palestine

For over 850 years, two Muslim families—the Joudeh and Nuseibeh families—have held the keys and unlocked the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, one of Christianity's holiest sites. This tradition, beginning around 1187 with Saladin, acts as a neutral, "enforced" coexistence strategy to prevent conflicts between competing Christian denominations.

After retaking Jerusalem in 1187, Saladin entrusted the keys to Muslim families to ensure, rather than prevent, fair access to the church for various Christian groups.

Traditionally, the Joudeh family holds the key, while the Nuseibeh family is responsible for opening and closing the heavy doors at dawn and dusk.

This act is considered a long-standing example of interfaith cooperation and stewardship, often seen as a necessary solution to internal Christian disagreements over control of the site.

Despite centuries of geopolitical changes, this arrangement continues today. The key is still brought daily to unlock the church, and on special occasions (like Holy Thursday), the key is formally handed over to the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land, then returned.

This shows both religions stand together against the evils and oppression of Israel.
