Feeling discouraged with how vets handle my puppy’s care
I really admire vets and everything they do, so this isn’t meant to bash them at all — I’m just feeling frustrated and could use some perspective from other puppy owners.
My pup is 8 months old, and twice now I’ve brought him in early when I first noticed symptoms. Both times I was told it was mild or “nothing to treat yet,” so we were sent home to monitor. Then he ended up getting worse, and I had to go back for a second visit — and that’s when he finally got medication.
I’m not someone trying to avoid vet bills. I would genuinely pay anything to help him feel better. It just feels awful watching him get sicker after doing the responsible thing and bringing him in early, only to be told to wait it out. Then he ends up needing meds anyway, plus the extra stress of another appointment, plus more time feeling miserable.
It’s gotten to the point where I feel like I need to exaggerate symptoms just to be taken seriously the first time, which I really don’t want to do. I just want him treated appropriately when I bring him in instead of waiting for things to escalate.
Has anyone else gone through this with their young pups? I’m trying to advocate for him the best I can, but right now I’m just feeling defeated.
