built a tiny cabin power system that actually works, 2 year update

Built a 200 sq ft cabin on 10 acres in northern Arizona back in 2024. Wanted to be completely off grid but had no idea what I was doing. First winter was rough with a small lead acid bank that died constantly.

Upgraded to a Vatrer Power 12V 300Ah LiFePO4 battery last spring and its been rock solid ever since. Paired with 600W of solar on the roof and a Victron MPPT controller. Simple setup but handles everything I need.

Daily use includes LED lights, a small 12V fridge, laptop and phone charging, a fan in summer, and occasional power tool use. On sunny days the battery is full by noon. Even on cloudy winter days I rarely drop below 60%.

The self heating feature has been clutch. Temps here drop below freezing regularly from November through February. Standard lithium batteries cant charge when cold but this one warms itself automatically. Uses some power to heat but way better than frozen batteries that wont charge at all.

Bluetooth monitoring lets me check everything from my phone without going outside. Voltage, current, state of charge, individual cell balance, temperature. Tech geek in me loves having all that data.

Compared to my old lead acid setup this is night and day. No maintenance, no water levels, no sulfation, no voltage sag. Just install it and forget about it.

Total cost was around $800 for the battery plus my existing solar setup. For anyone building a small off grid place, one good lithium battery and decent solar is honestly all you need for basic living.
