I am US IMG got preliminary IM this year, what will be my future next year and how do I apply for PGy 2 positions?
Questions:
What are my realistic options after completing a prelim IM year?
Do I need to reapply through the Main Match (ERAS) for a categorical IM position?
How do PGY-2 positions work?
Through ERAS?
Or mostly off-cycle / via networking and direct outreach?
When should I start applying during intern year?
What can I do during prelim year to strengthen my chances (LORs, Step 3, research, etc.)?
Primary goal: Internal Medicine (categorical), but open to understanding all pathways
