One week in IIM Jammu convert group and I’m concerned

"Peer group matters” really feels true sometimes.

I joined the current converts group for Indian Institute of Management Jammu and honestly the vibe is so weird. I thought people would discuss academics, hostels, SIP prep, profiles etc. But half the group is just cringe messaging.

There’s one guy who converted Jammu HC and literally every second message from him is “sherrr 🐯”.

Someone asks a genuine doubt “sherrr”.

Someone talks about documents “sherrr”.

What’s more annoying is that genuine questions barely get responses, but the moment someone says something cringe, suddenly everyone becomes active.

Worst part was when a girl asked about CS calculation. She mistakenly said her CS was 86 because she didn’t know the exact calculation properly, and instead of helping her people started mocking her. It went on to the point that she left the group.

Like seriously? If someone asks an admission-related doubt in an admission group, helping should be the normal response.

I know every batch has all kinds of people and WhatsApp groups are never the full reality, but first impressions do matter. If this is how people behave even before college starts, god knows what group projects and committee culture will look like.

Hopefully the actual campus experience is much better than the convert groups.
