Has anyone successfully implemented other farming/gardening techniques like Alley Cropping or Agroforestry in Arizona?

I’m interested in water retention methods to grow a garden and felt I should bring these up. Agroforestry needs a lot more space than my small backyard can do, but felt I’d share it anyway.
