I hope somebody will save me from this endless torture
First of all I am incredibly annoyed by this damn PL2 and PL1 handicap on this Acer Notebook. I have a custom cooling pad underneath that it can freezes the whole component up to the point where overheating isn't an issue anymore but this damn limit is just sucks.
I'm using an Acer Aspire 5 notebook with a pretty decent spec, i3 1115G4 and an MX350. TDP is 28watts max and 12watts low, base clock at 3ghz. Whenever the dGPU is on load, it will trigger this PL2 and then PL1 after a while which makes me stuck to 12watts reducing my FPS significantly. I tried everything like disabling DPTF, increasing PL1 and PL2 by also checking the lock box AND sync mmio, going to the BIOS and see if there's a setting to change PL limit result: none. For a record this doesn't happen before, it usually let it boost to at least 17watts (idk why it triggers PL2 locked on 17watt but it maintain the temp tho) for a consistent 3.6ghz while also maintaining GPU workload. It (CPU) can boost above 20watts when the GPU isnt on load. Here's the random part, sometimes the 12watts limitations is there sometimes it isnt last week. I'm fine with rebooting my laptop once to get that 17watts boost but then after another week, that 12watts suddenly never go away.
I know what I'm doing and I stumbled upon this article saying that I cannot do anything because it's the EC (embedded controller) that small cube thing sitting next to this damn processor is the one who overrides my CPU to not let it boost to what I wanted it to be. But idk, again temp is relatively too cool for this laptop which is a constant 60 degrees during heavy gaming load so temp isnt the problem here, thermal headroom is a LOT. I believe there are ways that I dont know off or might missed but please I hope someone in here can help me out, there's this one article where he managed to make the limitations off on his notebooks by doing a DDU on both igpu and nvidia, then reupdated it, I am not sure but i might give that a try later.
