So my family has been cultivating a piece of land for years, but we don’t have a patta for it.

Around 4–5 years back, my father contacted someone who work in the DC office to help us get the patta done. That guy ended up scamming us for around ₹1.8 lakh. We didn’t take proper legal action back then.

My father passed away last year, so now I’m trying to sort this out myself, but honestly I don’t know where to start.

Given the current situation in Manipur, I have a few doubts:

What is the actual process to get a patta for land we’ve been cultivating for years (no prior documents except maybe local proof)?

Should I directly approach the DC/SDO office, or is there any online process?

How much does it realistically cost (official + unofficial, since I’ve heard things aren’t always straightforward)?

Is there any risk that the land could turn out to be government land or disputed?

I just don’t want to get scammed again.

Thanks in advance.
