My child’s school told them to “eat less” to reduce food waste

I’m not even sure how to start here other than the fact that my kid went to a school event today for Earth Day and one of the educational things being presented was how individual people need to eat less food so there will be less food waste because food waste goes into the landfill and causes greenhouse gases.

First of all, it is patently untrue that individual people’s eating habits are the cause of the majority of food waste. Most is due to the food industry and the restaurant industry and the amount of edible food destroyed by supermarkets because they don’t sell it by the sell by date.

Secondly, it is not cool to guilt trip children by telling them to stop eating or they are killing the planet. No matter what, this is an adult problem and kids should not feel bad about eating food.

We talked a bit about it, but it still sucks that this is the kind of message being communicated.

Has anyone else seen this kind of “educational” outreach?
