Robert Spindell could be the chair of the WEC?

Robert Spindell is currently on the Wisconsin Elections Commission, a group in charge of overseeing elections in WI.  He may, in few months, be chosen to chair that commission.  He is also one of the infamous 10 "Fake Electors" who signed fraudulent documents stating that Trump won the 2020 election and tried to overturn the results here in WI. He also bragged in 2022 about driving down the vote in MKE, specifically among Black and Hispanic voters. How is he still on the WEC? Can someone please talk me down on this?

Well, SCOTUS just ruled that the LA maps that created a second majority-minority black district was unconstitutional. In a nutshell, this SCOTUS has ruled that legislators can rig the maps for partisan reasons, which gave rise to all this BS re-districting across the country between the census counts. Now, minority voters will have to prove that mapmakers had the intent to disenfranchise minority voters, not just that outcome. So, let's apply that standard to something we know all too well in WI: if someone drives their car into a crowd, the victims would have to prove that the driver intended to hurt or kill people, not just that they did so, or that their actions could be reasonably foreseen to do that. How will they prove intent? That is a very high bar. What do folks think?

At the same time the data centers are strong-arming communities to get more power, and utilities companies are really not promising to not pass higher rates onto consumers, state and national Republicans are trying to restrict development of renewable energy, even at times paying companies at the federal level to NOT produce more renewable (and cheaper) energy.  A survey by Marquette University Law School reports on a survey that says that there is a deep skepticism about data centers across all demographics – find out where your preferred candidates stand on this.  What do folks think about this? For me, we should be taking an "all of the above" approach to generating power, and only when we can be sure that data centers are power and water neutral, so to speak, should we be moving forward.

Are K12 voucher and private schools in WI really outcompeting the K12 public school system for kids?  Are parents really “choosing with their feet” and pulling their kids?  Well, the pro-voucher folks are certainly saying so.  But, it doesn’t really stand up to scrutiny.  In fact, WI K12 public schools educate about the same percentage of kids in WI now as they did before the voucher scams.  You and I are being forced to pay for kids whose families were already sending them to those private schools (about 80% NEVER attended a public school), to the tune of about $700 MILLION last year.  I think our common ground is that our tax dollars should be used for public good, not funding some parent’s choice to send their kids to private schools.

Urban Milwaukee is reporting that in 2025, 88 large corporations paid ZERO in federal income taxes, despite reporting $105B in US income.  Why aren't they paying taxes?  Well, in Trump 1.0, they got the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (which actually has been found to have done nothing to create jobs) which seriously reduced their tax burden.  Then, in Trump 2.0 the sequel, they got the BBB, which pushed many of them to ZERO tax liability and even generated rebates for some of them.

What does everyone else think about this?

I see two types of pols these days: one who builds bridges for EVERYONE to get across, including people who disagree, and the other who tries to break the bridges after he gets across, and tries to hurt everyone who disagrees, seeing this as the ultimate competition.

Here is an example: WPR is reporting on the building out of EV infrastructure in WI.  The money, about $80M, comes from the Biden Admin's Infrastructure Act in 2021 (remember, the legislation that even Bloomberg News reports sent more money proportionally to “red” counties than “blue" counties).

WI DoT Secretary Kristina Boardman, under the Dem. Gov. Evers Admin, talks about the progress, and notes that about 2/3 of the stations are in northern WI.  This is even though north of HWY 29 the voting has run as high as 70% Republican in recent years.

Evers and Biden, whatever else you thought about them, said repeatedly that they were governing for everyone, regardless of how you voted, and they backed it up.  If you question that, think about how many decisions they made that ticked off the left wing of the Dems.

What I really would love to see in WI (I've lived here 55 years at this point) would be a true competition in our politics to see who can do more to improve our lives. I care less about Repubs/Dems, and just want our pols to come up with good ideas.
