Weaning a 6 months old?

I’ve read many posts, but everyone seem to consider weaning when baby is older. Just curious: has anyone decided to wean after 6 months because EBF was no longer necessary?

My baby is 3.5 months old, and has had the strongest sucking reflex since being in utero. Before offering a pacifier, he could only soothe himself (when upset) or fall asleep by nursing. I have a strong let down and he would always end up with an upset tummy because of all the non-nutritive sucking he was doing. So as we got to the peak of PURPLE crying that almost broke me, the pacifier came to the rescue! At the beginning, we offered it only to soothe him when awake (i.e. car rides). Over time, slowly but surely, it has become THE number 1 sleep onset association/ crutch. Now the naps are horrifically short (30min long unless I’m able to extend them by rescue the naps at the perfect time when he is not fully awake), and we are fully relying on the pacifier to fall asleep, stay asleep and fall back asleep. As you can imagine, most of the time baby wakes up and starts crying as soon as the bloody dummy falls off his mouth. Though I know that newborn sleep is easier to manage, my baby was able to soothe himself to sleep in his crib a handful of times when he was 8 weeks old. Now, he is the worst napper and he never really slept longer than 4 hours stretches (twice since birth) at night (I EBF and he eats plenty during the day).

Can’t really sleep train him until he’s older but planning to as soon as possible. The first nap of the day for 30 min. The rest of the shortest naps had to be on the move (pram) or on me.

Hello parents! My baby is 3 months old and still feeds for hunger 2/3 times per night (I’ve been feeding him loads throughout the day, it hasn’t made a difference), which means loads of wees. I’ve been using a generous size of Huggies Little Sleepers, and though they reduced the number of nappy changes required at night, they haven’t lived up to the promise of 10-12 hours worth of absorbency. As a newborn, baby used to stay half asleep through the nappy change. Now he hates being woken up and the whole thing has become an ordeal for all of us. Twice I left him sleeping in his full nappy until the morning, and both times the poor little guy was soaked through to his sleep suit.

Parents, please share your secrets! x
