Is AutoDesk and/or Python knowledge necessary for an entry-level job, and if so how do I learn them (or show that I have)?

This post is based on a lot of postings I see for GIS jobs and even internships in my area asking for knowledge of AutoDesk software, specifically AutoCAD and Civil3D, as well as the occasional ask of ArcPy (which I have used in the past but in very simple ways).

I have absolutely zero knowledge in AutoDesk software and very little in Python/ArcPy, so I wanted to ask you all if going through the trouble (and cost) of getting some sort of certification like the one AutoDesk themselves offer and/or doing some kind of Coursera program for Python would be worth it. If this would be overkill, what else should I do? My main concern is simply being another "guy who knows basic GIS stuff and nothing else" applicant.
