Hi everyone, I’m Akihisa Tsuboi, the director of "Baseball YouTuber Yuya."

I’m back with an amazing update. Since my post yesterday, the film has reached over 4,100 views and climbed to #2 on the r/NPB trending list!

Most of the viewers are from the US (47%), and I’m so grateful that this story about Japanese "Rubber Baseball" is resonating with you all.

To celebrate, I’m doing a mini-AMA. Please ask me anything about:

  • The reality of "Kusa-yakyu" (sandlot baseball) in Japan
  • How we filmed high-quality action on an indie budget
  • My experiences as a director and my love for the game

Thank you for the incredible support!

Hi r/InternationalBaseball**!**

I wanted to share my project here because this community truly appreciates baseball beyond the MLB. My film "Baseball YouTuber Yuya" explores a side of Japanese baseball you rarely see in mainstream media: the world of "Rubber Baseball" (Nanshiki).

It’s a human drama about a former star prospect who lost his professional path but finds a new purpose through the amateur game and social media. I spent years capturing the authentic "spirit" and intensity of these players.

It’s finally available on Amazon Prime Video in the US, and I’d love to hear what international fans think of our unique ball culture!

I'm happy to answer any questions about the film or the Nanshiki scene in Japan!

Hi r/NPB community!

As a filmmaker in Japan, I’ve always been fascinated by the "soul" of our baseball culture—not just the bright lights of NPB, but the grit of those who keep playing even after their professional dreams fade.

My film "Baseball YouTuber Yuya" is a human drama about a former elite prospect finding redemption in the world of Japanese amateur baseball and social media. I spent years trying to capture the authentic "heart" of the Japanese game that you won't see in MLB.

It just launched on Amazon Prime Video in the US! If you love the intensity and spirit of Japanese baseball, I’d be honored if you gave it a watch.

I'm happy to talk about the filming process or anything about Japanese baseball culture!
