Is 6months too early?!

FTM in the UK.

LO has just turned 6 months and in the few week has decided that the next to me cot is evil. We have been co sleeping but this isn’t great for me with my lovely PGP left over from pregnancy. We are due to make the transition to his own room, but have a few Q’s about floor beds that I can’t seem to find answers to:

  1. Currently feed to sleep. The ideal bed would be one where I could feed him like I do when we co-sleep (side lying BF) and then once he is asleep I can roll away to freedom, so probably would need a bed with no rails?

If the bed is low enough to the ground does this eliminate the need for rails? If bed is not against walls etc. he isn’t crawling fully quite yet.
When we co sleep he never moves from being on his back in the middle of the bed

Can the rails just be the same style as a crib (vertical I assume) but only round 3/4 of the sides?

  1. All the frames sold online say they are for 18 months+ so now I’m doubting everything 😂

  2. Any recommendations on a good place to get frames/ slats?

  3. Other than firm are there any other mattress requirements? I’m quite a big lass so would need a bed bigger than a standard single most likely to facilitate the feeds.

Sorry for the long post but just trying to get it right and only today realised floor beds are a thing 😂

Floor Beds!

I’ve have only just learnt that these exist!

My LO has just hit six months old and recently decided that being put in his crib is a fate worse than death. For the last week or so I’ve been co sleeping, which I don’t mind but 1. I still get scared I’m not doing it safely enough (I do the safe 7 thing) 2. I wake up with terrible aches and cramps!!

Is it too soon to go with the floor bed? How does it work when baby can roll about and crawl?
Do people start off with settling them and then roll away?

He is also currently fed to sleep :)
