Comics recommendations for a returning reader

Hello everyone,

I’ve been a comic books reader since I can remember. I’ve also worked in the comics industry for a good chunk of my adult life.

At some point, right after the Civil War saga, I lost interest in Marvel Comics (and mainstream comics in general) and only read a few sparse issues here and there.

I’d like to be recommended some storylines I might’ve missed that absolutely deserve a read.

When I think about my favorite Marvel Comics the following comes to mind:

- John Romita Jr’s golden era Spider-Man

- Todd McFarlane‘s Spider-man

- Kraven’s Last Hunt

- Spider-Man Reign

- Venom Lethal Protector

- Byrne’s Avengers

- Byrne‘s Alpha Flight

- Byrne’s X-Men

- BWS’s Weapon X

- Texeira/Hama’s Wolverine

- Claremont/Miller’s Wolverine

- Morrison/Quitely‘s New X-Men

- Jim Lee’s X-Men

- Miller’s Daredevil (both the original run and Man Without Fear)

What I didn’t like about what I was reading right around when I left:

- storylines dragging for too long with padding that felt like a TV show trying to squeeze every penny out of an IP.

- issues that you’d read in 5 minutes where nothing happened.

- Events every other day. Every issues or arc had to be part of a multi-title event.

- characters getting morphed into their movie counterpart.

- writers/artists becoming superstars and series getting hyped through the roof ending up not being worth the cover price.

At some point I was only reading TPB’s where the whole saga/arc would’ve been concluded already and reviews/word of mouth would confirm it was worth reading.

Thank you for the help.

Best.
