Tell me more about Scripps

I just committed to Scripps and wanted to hear more about why people love or why people don't! Truth be told, I'm a little worried about being able to fit in with the community and academic/internship opportunities, as well as access to consortium resources. I'm really scared of feeling regret towards choosing Scripps because I chose Scripps over another college by small margin, so I'd love to hear some feedback and perspectives on Scripps!

P.S. i'd love to hear from anyone who goes to another 5C school too!

GWU vs Scripps

Hello!

I've already committed to George Washington but I got off the waitlist for Scripps College and is now deciding between the two; they both cost the same and gave me the same amount of aid. I'm an international relations and biology double major deciding between premed and prelaw. What I value the most in colleges is

  1. academics (i plan to go to grad school, so I need a good GPA)
  2. internship opportunities
  3. community/vibe and finally
  4. return on investment (gotta make sure that degree holds weight)

I've toured both colleges and absolutely loved both, but I loved both in different ways: GWU is obviously more city and fast-paced, Scripps is more tight-knit, intimate. I'm from Los Angeles, so take that as you will.

When touring scripps, I absolutely loved the community, campus, and culture. It's very supportive and collaborative, and of course, the ability to cross-enroll at the different schools under the claremont consortium is a very unique characteristic. I also love that it's a women's college under a broader community; all in all, the community and environment is amazing, but I'm concerned about opportunities, internships, and academics because it's obviously not gonna be as good as Washington D.C. given that it's lowkey in the middle of nowhere and an hour out of LA... I also grew up in LA and I love DC way more than LA.

When touring GWU, I loved the city; access to amazing internships (esp as an IR major), really good public transportation, unparalleled opportunities. It's literally washington dc and I chose it in the first place because I absolutely love the city experience + the opportunites that come with it. However, again, I'm worried about the community and being able to make friends. I've heard that GWU is definitely a more grown-up, independent experience which I'm not opposed to but it sounds a bit daunting

The risk I run going to Scripps college is losing out on really good opportunities in terms of career but also being too stagnant as a person. I feel like going to a college across the country and being able to have a GWU experience would make me grow as a person because i'd be learning to be more independent. However, at GWU, I risk feeling more lonely and losing out on the typical close-knit campus experience.

TLDR; Scripps is a more comfortable and tight-knit experience with decent academics/internship opportunities (close to home, supportive) VS GWU is a more outgoing, city, new and independent experience with amazing opportunities and connections. I know there's no losing here and these two experiences are equally as good, but I have to choose between two veryyy different experiences.
