Super excited to get these today after pre-ordering them.

They look fantastic and the book is extremely helpful..full of pictures and information.

Not sure when I'll be building them but I had to have them for the collection.

1/350 ISW YO Oil Barge Update

I had some time this weekend to do some model work and finally got a cargo boom built! I think I did a great job. I used parts from a Rainbow Derrick and Crane set III( Ise Class).

I finished it off by making a boom gallow for it to rest on.

I was also able to place down more handwheels which I hope to finish in the next few days. I have a few more small things to figured out and place.

I will be redoing the 20mm tubs with ones from Micro Master.

Once that's all done I'll start figuring out the railings.

So I didn't get to placing the rest of the handwheels down as I wanted to...but I did test out an idea I had for the hose racks that are on the sides of the catwalk. I think it turned out pretty well, these were only seen on the YO & YOG barges.

I should have time today and this weekend to finish up the handwheels and get an idea how to make the boom crane.

I just finished reading Battleship Sailor by Theodore C. Mason. What a fantastic book with some of the best descriptions of PreWW2 navy life. It has a amazing account of the attack on Pearl Harbor as the author was in the birdbath as a radiomen on USS California. I highly recommend this book.

He's also got another book "We Will Stand by You: Serving in the Pawnee, 1942- 1945" about his wartime service on a fleet tug during WW2. I also highly recommend it as well.

My next book to read is also in the picture,

"The Fighting Flying Boat: A History of the Martin PBM Mariner"

by Richard Alden Hoffman who was a PBM pilot..

Very much looking forwards to reading it!

I had some time yesterday to figured out and start placing the handwheels on the YO barge. Today I'll try to finish that up and get an idea how to make a boom crane and rest for it.
