slug day + UCSC cons

as someone who is waiting to get off one of three waitlists and is currently choosing between UCSC, UCR, and CCC (only options other than waitlist) should i go to slug day?

it feels stupid but i don’t want to go because it’s predicting 100% rain and i have to get up hella early. also i prob wouldn’t even go to UCSC considering it’s not great for pre med (im a bio major) and id rather go to CCC and transfer. i think im just thinking id go because it would help me not miss out on the four year undergrad experience. please lmk on ur past experience of slug day or just UCSC in general!!

RESCIND FOR WL STUDENTS

Hi everyone — coming here as someone currently waitlisted at UCSD, UCSB, and UC Davis, and I just wanted to make a small (but very genuine) request.

If you’ve already decided you’re 100% committing somewhere else, please remember to withdraw/rescind your UC acceptances when you can.

I’ve made so many posts like this but this is genuinley all I can do right now other than wait.

I know it seems like a tiny thing, but it actually matters a lot for students on the waitlist. Every spot that opens up gives someone else a real chance to attend a school they’ve been hoping for all year. Right now a lot of us are just refreshing portals and waiting, and those released spots genuinely make a difference.

No pressure if you’re still deciding — take your time! But if you’re completely sure you won’t attend a certain UC, hitting that withdrawal button could literally change someone’s future.

Sincerely,

a stressed waitlisted senior refreshing their email 24/7 🙏

UCSC vs UCR vs CCC

Hi everyone, I could really use some advice because I’m honestly stuck right now.

I was waitlisted at UCSD, UCSB, and UC Davis, which were some of my top choices, so now I’m trying to figure out what my smartest next move is while I wait for decisions to come out.

Right now my realistic options are:

- UC Riverside

- UC Santa Cruz

- Community College (CCC) with the goal of transferring ASAP (ideally in one year if possible)

For context im pre-med and I did bio or chemistry for my majors. UCR gave me basically no financial aid and UCSC gave me some but not a lot.

Here’s what I’m thinking about:

- I’m willing to work hard and care a lot about academics + future opportunities.

- I don’t want to make a decision I’ll regret if I later get off a waitlist.

- The CCC route is appealing because of TAG/transfer guarantees and potentially saving money, but I’m unsure about the social experience and whether transferring in one year is actually realistic.

- UCR and UCSC both seem like solid options, but I’m worried about committing somewhere while still hoping for a waitlist acceptance.

My main questions:

  1. Is it better to commit to a UC now and just switch if I get off a waitlist later?

  2. How realistic is a 1-year CCC transfer if I come in with AP credits?

  3. For people who were in similar situations, do you regret choosing CCC vs staying at a UC?

  4. Any pros/cons of UCR vs UCSC I should seriously consider?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been waitlisted before or had to choose between committing to a UC vs taking the transfer path. Thanks in advance 🙏
