I recently got a masters admission, and now at the point where I need to apply for a study permit.

The IRCC website lists bank statements as one of the ways to show proof of funds, but some commentators online have said it’s mandatory.

My question is, if I have a GIC that covers full living costs and all tuition fees have been paid to the school account, is this enough for proof of funds or do I still have to attach a bank statement even though all the money has left the account and are now either in a GIC or school account.

Can I use a GIC and tuition fees receipt to show proof of funds or is bank statement mandatory despite paying full tuition and securing a GIC for full living costs?

My friend recently got an admission for masters in Canada. He’s at the point where he wants to apply for the visa but is not entirely sure how to go about the proof of funds.

If he gets a GIC covering living costs and pays the school fees for the 4 semesters upfront. Will these be a sufficient proof of funds or will IRCC still require him to upload his bank statement?
