Seeking Brick-And-Mortar Businesses To Participate In A Dallas Area Game

I’m looking for businesses who want to participate in a unique game that will take players all over the Dallas area. The benefit for you is that you will get free foot traffic from participants who will need to walk through your doors to scan a digital clue. Could be best for any businesses who have a really unique store front that is better experienced in person. It also might allow you the opportunity to offer specials or incentives for those who are stopping by.

Send me a message for more details.

What Is “Dallas Side Quest”?

INSPIRATION:

I grew up playing adventure games, and my favorites always featured side quests. These were all of the “extra” things you could do in a game; places you could go, things you could gather, secrets you could unlock.

They weren’t necessary. Oftentimes they weren’t even obvious. But, if you discovered them and you took the initiative of completing them, there was always something special waiting for you.

I loved this aspect of gaming. It was like the creators were adding in a layer of appreciation for those who took the time to really explore everything they had made; players who took the time explore every last square inch of a fictional world and really allowed their curiosity to guide them.

And then I grew up and I discovered that the real world was sadly lacking in this feature.

Everything had been optimized for profit and efficiency and there was almost no incentive at all to explore or to be curious or adventurous, or to travel on an unfamiliar route or accomplish an unusual task. There were no secret missions, no hidden prizes, and certainly no secret items or levels to be unlocked.

But eventually, I realized there was a really great opportunity to create this feature in the real world, and that’s what I’m seeking to provide through Dallas Side Quest. I want to inspire curiosity, exploration, adventure and discovery, right here in your local area.

HOW IT WORKS:

On the various DSQ social media platforms, I’m going to release videos of objects being hidden in public places. There will be a tiny bit of context, but not much. Once the video is released, anyone who wishes to try and find the object can do so.

Additional clues will be released one at a time every 48 hours, helping to narrow down the location, until the object is finally found.

Whoever finds the object can keep it, AND, they will be eligible for a prize (TBD each time). In some cases, this will be cash. In other cases, it will be a gift card or a unique prize or something of value.

My hope is that as DSQ grows in following and participation, so too will it grow in monetary support, partnerships and sponsorships. If all goes as planned, the prizes will grow in proportion, becoming more and more compelling each time.

WHERE THIS GAME WILL TAKE PLACE:

All of the DSQ content will be shared online, so I guess you could say the game starts there. But all of the objects that are hidden will be placed in public spaces (parks, hiking trails, urban areas, green belts, and all other shared, community spaces).

Some rounds of this game will happen with partnerships and sponsorships, and in those cases, you may need to stop at a particular place to get the first clue before you know where to go. But in any case, the objects you will be looking for will *ALWAYS* be hidden in safe places with free, public access. There will always be public parking nearby and an easy, safe way to access the location of the hidden object.

WHAT YOU WILL NOT DO (OR NEED TO DO):

I will never bury anything, so there will never be a need to dig. (Leave your shovels at home)

I will never hide anything high enough that you need to climb something to retrieve it. (Leave your ladders and grappling hooks at home)

I will never hide something that requires you to wade or swim through any body of water to retrieve a hidden object. (Leave your swim suit at home… unless that’s just the look you’re going for that day. In that case, you do you).

I will never hide something directly on the side of a road or highway that would put you in close proximity to fast-moving vehicle traffic.

I will never, ever, place an object on private property that requires you to trespass in order to find it. And I cannot stress enough how important it is to respect private property. If you feel you’re about to trespass, I promise that you’re in the wrong location and you’re going the wrong way. Don’t do that. Doing so is not only illegal, but it could compromise the game for the rest of us too.

DANGER(?):

I intend to keep this game safe enough that any family with small children can safely participate together with no worries about anyone getting hurt or harmed. The only danger you can reasonably expect would be the same amount of danger you could reasonably expect if you were going on a hike:

-Bugs that sting or bite
-Occasional poisonous plants
-Wild animals
-Other people
-Trip hazards like rocks and roots
-Uneven terrain
-That giant ball of gas, burning in the sky
-Shape-shifting Chupacabras? (allegedly)
-Heat exhaustion / dehydration (stay hydrated out there)
