Building explosive fitness with as little impact training as possible

Hi all,

I’ve allowed myself (170cm) to swell to the mighty size of 98 kg so have joined man v fat.

Well, I’m 96 now so a decent first week!

This is because I haven’t really trained for 3 years - used to love playing and running but hammered my back. More on that later. Long story short, I’ve put on about 30 kilograms.

Anyway, I am struggling with my explosive fitness and it’s really frustrating me. Obviously, because I’m really fat, that’s inevitable but I’m looking to build it up. However, there’s a caveat…

Impact training is completely out because that’s what ruined my back in the first place. I can just about manage a game of football a week but my doctor would not be happy if he knew about it! Even when I was fit, I stopped being able to run every other day for example because my back couldn’t handle it.

Does anyone have any recommendations or regimens for rebuilding that explosive fitness needed for football from absolute zero, minus any impact training?

P.S. I tried to swim but I seem to have forgotten how so thinking bike or elliptical?
