My adult son is disabled and living with a traumatic brain injury. A group of teenagers brutally assaulted him as part of what appears to be a social media “trend” targeting vulnerable people for entertainment and online clout.
They broke his nose, fractured his cheekbone, and left him hospitalized in the ICU. After surviving the physical injuries, he then had to be admitted into immediate psychiatric care because of the trauma from what happened.
This wasn’t “kids being kids.” This was a mob attack on a vulnerable disabled person who could not defend himself. A few weeks later they assaulted another disabled man on the streets who knew my son personally. He did not survive the attack. The teenagers have been charged with Homicide.
What hurts even more is seeing how normalized this kind of cruelty has become online. Recording assaults, humiliating vulnerable people, chasing views and likes at the expense of human lives — it’s horrifying.
As his parent, I am trying to help him recover, relocate somewhere safe, and rebuild some kind of stability after this nightmare. I started a GoFundMe because the medical, housing, transportation, and recovery-related expenses are overwhelming.
I’m attaching the video of the assault because people need to understand this is real. My son is a real person. He matters.
