My Pimped Out Ibanez AS73
A few years ago I bought an Ibanez AS73 and it blew my mind. For the type of music I make, it does it all (from clean Jazzy to rabid dense distortion with lovely feedback when wanted). I did make a few changes:
- Gotoh bridge: it looks like the original but it's easier to intonate and it's seems better quality overall.
- Retro Ibanez pot knobs, to match my hollowbody Ibanez AG95 (I like them better cosmetically and in feel)
- Super58 Pickups from Korea, at a great price on Ebay (upgrading pups in a semihollow is not for the faint of heart, but I like their sound better than the ceramic original set)
- Solid mahogany pickguard from the fine folks at STL from aliexpress. I finished it with a glossy clear coat to match the rest of the guitar. They were super helpful and sent me one without holes because they are made for the Gibson ES335 which is a bit different.
- Full setup (fret leveling/crowning/polishing, etc)
I absolutely love how it sounds, feels, looks and plays. Anyways, I thought I would share to encourage others to give some love to their inexpensive guitars. These days, inexpensive is not the same as cheap anymore.
