Why am i not getting a job! Roast my resume please.
I just finished an internship at an environmental government-contracted consulting firm, but most roles got outsourced, so there was no return offer. Since then, I haven’t been able to get a job and have had barely any interviews.
Everyone keeps saying my experience is good, just that I don’t have one clear goal on my resume. So I refined my search into three paths:
- marketing & growth analytics
- data / AI analyst
- sustainability / ESG consulting and analytics
I also have really strong connections at tech companies who refer me, and I get through multiple rounds of interviews… then something happens at the end every time.
I really really really really really want to live in LA, that’s where most of my experience and network are. But I just moved back to Maryland because my mom lives here, and people keep saying there are better opportunities here (for tech in the DMV) , which doesn’t really align with where my connections are.
I don’t want to give myself excuses, but I did just get diagnosed with ADHD and started medicating this year. I have a very high processing, systems-oriented brain, it’s just that sometimes my mouth can’t catch up, so I end up thinking while I’m speaking and processing in real time. I’m wondering if that’s something recruiters pick up on.
At the same time, all my mentors at high levels say my issue is getting in the door, and that once I actually meet recruiters, my personality and intelligence carry me.
So now I’m confused about what I’m actually doing wrong and how to fix it.
