HK Permanent Resident (English-only) looking to relocate ASAP realistic job opportunities

Hi everyone! I’m looking for advice / possible opportunities in Hong Kong.

I currently work in strategy/research consulting in Southeast Asia, mainly doing market research, strategy, and investment-related projects across different industries. I’ve recently been seriously considering relocating to HK as soon as possible.

Some people I know has mentioned getting hired even without visas because companies sponsored them, which made me think maybe I still have a chance. In my case, I actually already have residency rights in HK (I have a HK passport + permanent ID card), so visa sponsorship thankfully isn’t an issue. My biggest concern is that I only speak English.

I wanted to ask:

  1. Would I realistically get hired faster if I were already physically in HK?
\- Do employers tend to prefer candidates already in the city, or are online applications / LinkedIn / JobsDB etc. still effective enough from overseas?
  2. Are there opportunities for English-only speakers?
\- Ideally I’m looking for strategy / research / analyst / business roles, but honestly I’m open to almost anything at first just to establish myself in HK. Even tutoring, retail, cashiering, admin work, or customer-facing jobs. I genuinely don’t mind starting somewhere practical first and then working my way up later.

My long-term goal is still to build a career in strategy/business, but my immediate goal is simply to move to HK and settle there ASAP.

For context:
\- Background in strategy/research consulting
\- Experience in market research, investment/industry studies, and corporate strategy-type work
\- English only
\- HK permanent resident

Would really appreciate honest advice about:
\- industries that are more English-friendly
\- realistic entry points
\- whether moving first without a job is a terrible idea
\- companies/platforms/recruiters worth checking
