[Warning] My Pixel 9 Repair Experience in India: The "Functional" Catch of Mail-in Service (₹12k vs ₹20k)

I recently had to get my Pixel 9 repaired after a bike accident left me with a shattered screen and a heavily scuffed metal frame. I learned a very expensive lesson about the difference between Walk-in and Mail-in service in India that every Pixel owner should know.
- The Walk-In Experience (F1 Solutions, Chennai)
I first visited the authorized center in Kilpauk.
The Quote: ~₹20,000 (₹10k for screen, ₹8k for frame, plus labor/taxes).
The Vibe: Long wait times, and they told me they had no stock, asking me to return in 3 days.
The Claim: They insisted the screen and frame were separate components and had separate costs. I was skeptical and hoped for a better deal online.
- The Mail-In Experience (Google Official / Noida Hub)
I opted for the mail-in service via the Google Store.
The Logistics: Blue Dart pickup was smooth. No shipping or diagnostic fees were charged upfront.
The Quote: ₹12,178 (including tax) for "Screen Replacement."
The Communication: The estimate mentioned "all other complaints will be repaired under the estimate." This is where the confusion started. I assumed this meant the cosmetic frame damage would be handled too.
- The Result (The "Functional" Trap)
I received the phone today (shipped from the Gurugram hub).
The Good: The screen is perfect. The repair was fast (1.5 days). Shipping via Blue Dart Air was efficient despite a minor "network delay."
The Bad: The metal frame was NOT replaced. All the deep scratches and scuffs from the accident remain (see photo).
The Realization: Google’s official hub performs functional repairs. Since the frame damage was "cosmetic," they ignored it to keep the cost at the ₹12k screen-only price.
The Takeaway for Pixel Owners:
If you want it to LOOK new: Go to a walk-in center and pay the full ₹20k for both the display and the housing. The mail-in service likely won't include the frame unless you explicitly demand a quote for it.
Don't believe the "Integrated Assembly" myth: For the Pixel 9 in India, the frame and screen are billed and replaced as separate units.
The "All other complaints" line is misleading: It refers to internal functional checks (WiFi, sensors, etc.), NOT cosmetic restoration.
TL;DR: I saved ₹8,000 by using mail-in, but I ended up with a brand-new screen on a beat-up, scratched-up frame. If you've had an accident, decide if you want a working phone or a new-looking phone before choosing your repair path.
