gwedolyn brooks estate says that "Ms. Brooks left specific restrictions for how this poem can be used. Her intention for the poem was to be neither pro or con abortion. It can not be used in that context.”
I thought that was interesting because it reads to me like a mother regretting her abortion by reminiscing about it.
