can't decide between ucla and cal

in march, i got into ucla AND berkeley (first world problems i know). i am crazy grateful to even have this option in the first place, but i'm having a tough time deciding where to go. i just don't know which campus would be a better fit for me.

to preface, i'm an incoming freshman. my major is english, and i'm hoping to double major in history.

ucla

pros:

closer to home (2 hour drive)

easy-to-travel campus layout

cute college town!

housing guaranteed?

#1 dining hall

more traditional college campus feel?

commuter feel kinda

cons:

not number one..?

don't know much ab their english program

berkeley

pros:

number one! (prestige)

insane opportunities

amazing english dept

cons:

far. real far. 8 hour drive

unsafe from what i know

dorms are off campus?

housing only guaranteed 1 yr?

food isn't great

i will be living with a cat, as neither of my parents can take care of her right now. i'm shooting for a single dorm on campus housing-wise. i will have access to my own car.

thanks for any and all help! i would really appreciate it!
