Looking to buy dongle after install HA on Ugreen NAS

I am planning to purchase a UGREEN NAS DXP2800 and install Home Assistant on it instead of buying the Home Assistant Green. In this case, I would like to know what dongles I should buy to plug into the UGREEN NAS so that it can support all the major smart home standards such as Zigbee, Thread, Matter, etc.

I am a beginner and have no experience with Home Assistant, so I would really appreciate your guidance. Thank you.

Also, what do you think about the idea of installing Home Assistant on a UGREEN NAS?

Ad Block features was causing the Deco units to repeatedly disconnect, and this is how I fixed it.

I have a Gold SE running in Router mode. Behind it, I have an unmanaged switch, and then all three Deco BE11000 units in Access Point (AP) mode — including 1 main Deco and 2 Deco nodes — are connected to that same switch for wired backhaul.

When using the Deco units in AP Mode, all three Deco devices appear in the Firewalla device list together with all other client devices connected to the Deco network, whether via Wi-Fi or wired connections, such as iPhones, TV boxes, etc.

Last night, I tried enabling Ad Block on Firewalla to test how effective the Default and Strict Ad Block modes are when browsing news websites. (Usually, news websites outside the U.S. contain a lot of embedded advertisements.)

About 20 minutes after I enabled Ad Block, I noticed that my Wi-Fi became unstable and the LEDs on the Deco units turned red. They stayed red for about 2 minutes before turning green again. After that, the same issue kept repeating roughly every 10 minutes.

I then went into the Ad Block settings in the Firewalla app. I kept Ad Block in Default mode enabled, but excluded all 3 Deco devices from Ad Block, and the issue stopped happening completely.

I double-checked again this morning. When I went into Ad Block and removed the exclusions for the three Deco units, the issue immediately came back. This happens in both Ad Block Strict and Default modes.

And just like last night, once I excluded the three Deco devices from Ad Block, the Deco system returned to normal operation again.

I searched online and it seems that Deco uses cloud services to manage communication and coordination between the Deco units, so it’s possible that the Ad Block feature is interfering with the Deco cloud connectivity.

If you are using Firewalla together with Deco and experiencing a similar issue, you can try this solution. Don’t worry — even if you exclude all Deco devices from Ad Block, all other devices in your home will still have ads blocked normally.

Background story: My house has Frontier Fiber internet. I use the Gold SE in Router mode. All the main Deco units and nodes are set to Access Point (AP) mode, and I’ve connected them via wired backhaul using Ethernet cables into the same unmanaged switch.

Previously, at least once a day, Firewalla would notify me that my WAN ISP was disconnected. When I checked the Events in Firewalla, it said the disconnection was caused by a Ping Test failure. This never used to happen when I was using the Purple.

Eventually, I figured out the cause of the issue. In the first few days after setting up the Gold SE, I changed the DNS settings for both the WAN ISP and the LAN, but I didn’t reboot Firewalla after applying those changes.

Yesterday, after reading a comment from Firewalla on Reddit recommending that the DNS field in the WAN ISP settings should be left it blank, so that way Firewalla can automatically use the ISP’s DNS, I followed that advice. After applying the change, I opened the Firewalla app, tapped the gear icon in the top-right corner of the home screen, then went to Advanced and selected “Reboot Firewalla.”

Since then, the Gold SE hasn’t experienced any WAN disconnections, and the Ping Test failures have also stopped occurring.

Also this is my DNS setup for LAN and WAN. And Ping test target.

For LAN DNS, I set the Primary DNS to 9.9.9.9 and the Secondary DNS to 149.112.112.112.

For WAN DNS, I left it blank so Firewalla can automatically pick up the DNS from the ISP.

In the Ping Test target section of the WAN settings, I entered three IP addresses in order:

  1. The Gateway number (This can be found under WAN settings)
  2. 9.9.9.9
  3. 149.112.112.112

The rest i keep as default.

I hope this post can helo anyone have same issue like me

Remember using Firewalla App to reboot your Firewalla after you change LAN and WAN setting.

I’m a newbie and I have a question like this. I’m using Gold SE as follows: Firewalla Router → Main Deco (AP Mode) → Unmanaged Switch → 3 Deco Node, all node connect with wired backhaul.

In Firewalla, I have set the Primary DNS and Secondary DNS to Quad9 (9.9.9.9 and 149.112.112.112) on both the ISP and LAN settings.

In this case, should I also use the Unbound feature, or is it unnecessary?

My main goal is that I don’t want Google to track my traffic.

Thank you.

I have a Gold SE and I’ve enabled Device Active Protect (DAP), but the Learning list currently only shows 25 devices. There are still a few IoT devices in the Ineligible list, and I don’t know how to manually add those devices to the Learning list. Any advice? Thank you.

I currently have a Firewalla Gold SE and I’m planning to rebuild my home network to take full advantage of VLAN capabilities.

I understand that I can install the Unifi Controller on the Firewalla Gold SE. However, I also need to use Unifi applications such as Protect and Access in order to run Unifi cameras and a doorbell. Because of this, I would need to purchase the Cloud Gateway Max, since it includes the full Unifi OS and the applications I need for the doorbell and cameras, and it also has the Unifi Controller built in.

At the same time, I will of course buying a Unifi switch and a few Unifi APs for wired backhaul.

However, I want to keep the Gold SE as my main router in order to take full advantage of all Firewalla features. The issue is that the Unifi Cloud Gateway Max is also a router, so I cannot have both Firewalla and the Unifi Gateway acting as routers at the same time.

Then i found a forum post from Firewalla where someone used a workaround to keep Firewalla as the main router while connecting the Unifi Gateway to a LAN port on the Firewalla and creating a Dummy WAN Connection for the Unifi Gateway so it can operate normally:

https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/34630914866707-Firewalla-Gold-setup-with-Ubiquiti-Dream-Machine-SE

I would appreciate it if you could share whether this is the best approach, or if there are any better ideas. Thank you all.
