I got a Hagstrom Viking as my primary bari, but was thinking it'd be cool to have another tuned A to A. I saw someone on here buy a temu bari replacement neck and I've got a lot of guitars, so I thought sure, let's convert one.
Not so simple though. I didn't think through the intonation issues, so my thinline tele with a bigsby wasn't gonna be a good candidate. The neck sat there for a few weeks while I stewed. I'd have to physically move the bridge back on a guitar to make this work.
Then one day coming home from work, I see an almost completely stripped guitar body next to a needle drop box. The pickups were still there, and one pot (turned out it was only half a pot), and an output jack. Well shoot I like a project. So I took it home. Realized the pickups actually had their wiring stripped. But I had a couple spares... one of them from a jazz bass pickup swap. So I had to route the pickup holes a little bigger, but thought it would be cool to have both bass and guitar pickups on a bari. I replaced the other parts and wired it up. Don't have a bridge p/u yet, still deciding what to do there. Maybe a humbucker. The setup still leaves a lot to be desired but it's playable for now, I just wanted to get a sound out of it. Oh and it's wired as volume, tone, bass cut, inspired by the choke switch on my bass VI.
I tried blending the guitar and bass pickups but I think I grabbed the wrong one cause they sound out of phase. I'll need to swap it out with the other one when I'm feeling a bit more motivated.
