Many evicted 'Miya' Muslims in Assam cannot vote in the upcoming elections. They face a double whammy. Families like that of Asif and Haider (names changed to protect identity), despite filling form 6, family members have been left out.

They have been born and raised on the same land, where they have lived and voted for since generations. Yet now, they are being "systemically" removed from voter lists, they allege. "Around 80-90% of those who faced eviction last year will not be able to cast their votes this time. Most of these had resided in Golaghat, Goalpara and some in Dhubri, areas in Hojai and Lakhimpur," said AAMSU's chief Imtiaz Hussain.
