hey, first year international student here, wanted to ask if landing a candidate engineer position or internship during first year is actually doable?

I already did a couple internships back home so I'm not starting from zero, but I'm not sure how the whole process works here as a foreigner — whether companies are open to hiring internationals, if there are language barriers in applications, stuff like that

basically just wondering if anyone's been in a similar spot or has tips on where to even start. any advice is appreciated 🙏

Hey! I got accepted into the grad program (Data Informatics) and I'm trying to figure out housing before I move to Ankara in the fall. I've been looking at the KYK dorms vs private options but honestly the info I'm finding online is kind of all over the place.

A few things I'm curious about:

- Is it even realistic to get a KYK spot as an international grad student or is that a lost cause?

- Are the dorms on campus actually decent or should I just go straight for a private place near campus?

- Any neighborhoods you'd recommend for a student on a budget?

Hey everyone! So I just got accepted into an AI master's program in Ankara and I'm lowkey panicking about the language barrier lol. I speak English, Arabic and French so picking up new languages isn't usually too bad for me, but Turkish looks... different.

I'm not trying to become fluent overnight, realistically I just want to be able to read signs, survive daily life, and not look completely lost when talking to professors or admin staff.

Anyone have recommendations for where to start? Apps, YouTube channels, specific courses, anything really. Free stuff preferred but I'm open to paid if it's actually worth it.

Also curious on how long did it take you to get conversational from zero? And is Turkish as hard as people say or is that just drama ?

I’m trying to move more into local LLMs instead of relying on paid stuff, mainly for coding + some general use (and maybe small agent/RAG projects).

My setup is:

• i7-11gen
• 32GB RAM
• Intel Iris Xe (so yeah… no real GPU :D)

I’ve been looking into Qwen (especially coder), Llama, Mistral, etc., but there’s so many options that it’s kinda hard to know what actually works well in practice vs benchmarks.

So I wanted to ask:

• What models are you actually running on similar specs?
• What’s been surprisingly good / not worth it?
• Any setups that felt close to a “Claude/GPT-lite” experience locally?
