Steampunk public domain source material

Knowing that Arthur Conan Doyle and HG Wells works are public domain, I was wondering what other classic works out there are public domain?

I've been considering writing a story about a young teenager named Watson who accidentally inhales some mind-alteting chemicals while cleaning out the attic of a historical society. The chemicals mix in his mind to create a facsimile of Sherlock Holmes as a form of enhanced intelligence as he tries to stop other Victorian/gothic/steampunk horrors get unleashed!

Any ideas would be appreciated.

The 'grape factory' news story coming up...help!

With school heading back on Wednesday for NSW students, I'm afraid that stage 5 students will bring up the 65,000,000 users of that particular academy that has made the news recently.

Any advice on how to address this? For context, I'm a male science teacher and am worried I'll make things worse by just squashing the topic when it comes up.

Manifestation as Superpowers

In shows such as The Boys and Lucifer, superpowers can be a manifestation of a person's psychology, such as Billy Butcher's corrupting influence manifesting as cancerous tentacles or Amenidial's distancing from humanity manifesting as time stoppage.

What are powers and what psychology would manifest them in an adult if they were suddenly given a superpower?
