NZ accounting grad moving to Australia help
Hey everyone,
I’m about to finish my Bachelor of Management Studies with honours from a university in NZ, majoring in Accounting + Strategic Management, and planning to move to Wollongong to be with my girlfriend.
I’ve got around an A average (~87.5), so I’ve done pretty well academically. Also have 3 years full-time experience as a lead store manager at a supermarket while studying (running a team, ops, some financial responsibility), but no direct accounting experience yet.
I think I’ve missed most of the grad program deadlines, so just trying to figure out the best move from here.
Couple questions:
-When should I start applying for jobs before moving? What are the opportunities like
-Should I still try for grad roles or just go straight for assistant/junior accountant roles?
-Is an NZ accounting degree looked at fine in Australia?
-Better to wait for mid-year intakes or just get into any relevant role ASAP?
-If anyone’s done the NZ to Australia move or started in a similar spot, would love to hear what worked for you.
