Looking for advice from any female sparkies in Perth

I’m looking for a big change - I’m in healthcare right now, 25F in Perth, but want to move into trades, specifically electrical. My partners an electrician and really encouraging. I just need a change and something lower stress where I can leave work at work. I like working with my hands and problem solving. Also want the opportunity to earn more money (eventually).

A few questions for any female sparkies in Perth:

  1. I’ve heard it’s really hard for mature aged students to find apprenticeships, but that big companies have good apprenticeship programs. What companies should I look at in Perth, and how hard would it be to get an apprenticeship with them? I plan to do my pre-apprenticeship.

  2. What’s it like for female sparkies right now?

  3. What specialisations/industries are good to get into for a female wanting to start a family in the next 5 years?

Thanks for any advice.

TAFE teachers advice?

Hi, I’m a speech pathologist and am studying my TAE40122. I have almost 2 years experience, but want to move out of clinical work into teaching. I know NSW tafe requires at least 3 years experience.

  1. How likely is it I could get a job with the minimum 3 years experience?
  2. What’s the starting pay for someone with a masters in speech pathology and TAE40122?
  3. Is it attractive to a tafe if you can teach across subjects? I was thinking of doing allied health assistance and individual support (disability) as I have extensive experience working with NDIS clients and support workers.
  4. How do you progress your salary? I’ve read you need to do a masters or similar in education - is that a short course and does it require placements? Any insight into pay progression would be helpful!!

Thanks for any advice.
