Second Go…..
Like the title says- I’m on my second go around with Mounjaro- and things seem very different for me….
First time around I did the going up 2.5 every pen, until 10; when my digestion became unpleasant- backed off to 7.5 and 5, but kept on feeling nauseous every time I ate, eventually I gave up, having lost 14 kilos over 6 months. It did help me to stop taking citalopram for depression and I haven’t needed to go back on that
A year later, having regained 8 of those kilos, and pretty dispirited I got the courage to try again- nothing else was helping to stop me devouring a whole large Papa Johns, or a pack and a half of biscuits…. I even worked out that the work meal deal could be a triple sandwich, Ginsters pasty and a thick milkshake (still daren’t look up that calorie count).
This time I’ve stayed on 2.5- just onto my 4th pen and the suppression has been amazing- and without significant side effects (headachy and tired the morning after injecting sometimes, and the odd bit of constipation) but the wins have been great:
- Down 12.5 kilos (103-91) in 13 weeks
- BMI down from 33.8 to 29.7
- Twice I’ve postponed the injection by a week because of big, emotional weeks- each time I’ve maintained, not lost, but not gained
- Snoring stopped
- Waist down from 38 to 34 (pre-Covid Jeans now fitting better than they did then)
- T shirts down from XXL to XL/L
- Cholesterol down from 5 to 4.4
- 5 bags of clothes that were enormous on me gone to charity, one shirt was more like a lab coat.
Couple of things I’ve found useful:
- Protein shakes- the whey isolate ‘clear’ one from Bulk has been amazing as a breakfast substitute and the u-fit Strawberry is a great one in a meal deal.
- Treat meals the day before injecting when I can manage fish and chips or a takeaway
- Grapes- sweet, amazing and so juicy, same for easy peelers
- cutting carbs from a lot of meals, last night was a big chicken Kiev with green veg- more than enough
- walking- we got a walking-pad (folding mini treadmill) in Covid- watching an episode of something crappy on Netflix is about 5000 steps
One thing I’ve not tried is back to the gym- have promised myself to start some resistance work once I get below 90….
Think I’m facing into this being a forever drug for me, and that’s fine- I know I’m on hypertension tablets for life, and I’ll just ignore the voice that tells me weight issues are something I should be able to control; 30 years of trying hasn’t done it for more than a few weeks, and I’d rather be physically healthier through less chance of heart problems than worry too much about anything else!
So, other than me just being a bit smug; I hope this post is useful to others- it might be slower at a lower dose, but it does still work for some of us.
